The People of WCE

Joshua Rice, P.E. , Co-Owner, Lead Professional Engineer

Josh has been working in the fields of Water Rights and Civil Engineering design since 2003, beginning when he became the Civil Engineer for the Central Colorado Water Conservancy District.  At CCWCD, Josh provided technical information to farmers and legal entities determining water flows and projections in order to enforce historical water rights.  In 2006, Josh joined an engineering consulting group in Denver where he worked as Principal Engineer on multi-million dollar projects.  In 2010, Josh returned home to the Western Slope with his young family and joined the City of Aspen as a Civil Engineer.  It was there where learned the technical building codes and culture of civil design  in the pristine high alpine environs of Aspen and the Roaring Fork Valley at-large.  Josh formed Woody Creek Engineering, LLC, in 2015 and has forged a business that once was based on the revenue of a single client, to now providing engineering  solutions for over 30 clients per year.   Josh has lived nearly his entire life in Western Colorado and it is his innate knowledge and love for the West that drives the business of Woody Creek Engineering.

Sarah Evans, M.Ed., Co-Owner, Director of Operations and Business Administration

Sarah began her professional career in 1996 as a dancer and founding member of the Aspen Santa Fe Ballet.  In 2002, she graduated from the University of Colorado-Boulder with a degree in Philosophy and soon after with a Master's Degree in Education.  She worked as an educator in Denver Public Schools teaching middle and high school students for six years before returning home to Western Colorado in 2010.  Sarah worked in the non-profit sector in Aspen from 2011-2018, first as a Case Manager at the Buddy Program where she used her bilingual and multicultural skills building support systems for families in the Roaring Fork Valley, and then as Operations Manager for Aspen Santa Fe Ballet.  She has served as the President of the Board of Directors for the Early Learning Center, and currently as President of the Woody Creek Metropolitan District's Board of Directors.  Using her acumen in communication and organization, Sarah officially joined her husband, Josh Rice, in 2018 to act as the Director of Operations and Business Administrator of Woody Creek Engineering.
